Sun, Nov. 28
... Makes no difference where you are
It's the first Sunday of Advent! Which means that sometime between last Sunday and this Sunday, the sanctuary was magically transformed into a Christmas wonderland with garlands, trees, and thousands of tiny, sparkling white lights. Or, as Laurel would say, the foliage (which seems to be the trademark of every Alliance church's Christmas decorations) has appeared. But it's just so pretty!

And, on that note, this week's Thursday Threesome is worth taking a look at. Just because I'm in the Christmas spirit, anyways.

::Christmas Bells are Ringing::

Onesome: Christmas-- Is it Thanksgiving? ...or just the day before the start of the "Christmas Season"? (...and how are you supposed to shop if you're all stuffed with food?) Hey, is anyone going out tomorrow to save tons of money standing in endless lines with 10,000 of your closest friends? Just curious... Well, Thursday was just another day around here. Nothing special. Thanksgiving was 6 weeks ago. So that means that there's one less holiday to get in the way of Christmas merchandising in Canadian stores, right? Christmas stuff starts going up on November 1. As soon as the Halloween decorations are down, basically. Although Santa didn't appear in malls until this weekend.

Twosome: Bells-- Okay, we'll give in and admit that maybe the season has started: what decorations are you looking forward to seeing in the next few days? ...the lights in the downtown? How about knowing you'll soon have a tree with that memorable ornament? The Toys for Tots drop off? What makes you comfortable knowing the Christmas season is really here? Like I said, the Advent season starting, and the decorations going up in church are a big one. That always makes it that much more imminent. But, of course, things like Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, lights going up on the houses, Santa in the malls, and all that kind of thing, are little signposts along the way. And, the big one... Christmas shows, concerts, and tech week. And, although it doesn't really apply to me anymore, exams. What else says Christmas like cramming?

Threesome: are Ringing-- ...in your ears? What song are you just dreading to hear this season? Come on, the one that just makes you scrunch up inside and want to duck into an iron foundry so you can't hear it? Weird Al? Something from "The Nutcracker"? Those dogs? I mean come on, there's some bad stuff out there ... I still laugh (in a good way) whenever I hear anything from The Grinch or Charlie Brown. Especially Charlie Brown. Heh. Especially when I hear it in Wal-Mart. Right, Trevor? I suppose, though, that there are so many bad versions of Christmas carols out there that it can be pretty easy to find something that grates the ears.

I'm feeling ready to change my template again. What else is new? Looking for something Christmas/wintery. And I think I might have found something wintery, but nothing Christmas yet. But that's okay. We just might go with the winter theme here.

Yay. It's almost Christmas.

I have much to say on the topic of shopping, but am running out of time at the moment, so I'll just leave it at that for now.
