There is, however, a sense of interactivity within a film audience, especially if it's a full theatre, and especially when everyone's seeing it for the first time. There's something about feeding off the reactions of everyone around you that gives you the freedom to laugh a little louder, sigh a little deeper, groan a little harder. The freedom of anonymity within the group, yet the allowance to make your voice heard, is a powerfully addictive sensation.
And that, to me, makes going to see a movie in a first-run theatre worth the $10. That's the bigger draw than the big screen or the amazing sound. I feed off the people around me (except when they talk and make inane and unnecessary comments throughout the movie... "Oh! He just figured out that..."--ya think? We all got it!), and responding to and with them makes the movie come alive for me, just a little bit more.
And speaking of which, I saw the trailer for "Rent" tonight. I can't wait for that to come out! Yep. I cried during the trailer, for goodness' sake. That and "Narnia" are my movies to look forward to for this pre-Christmas season.
